The Strategy Portfolio Canvas is used to prioritise existing and new strategies that have arised from the analysis of scenarios. No organisation can do everything, so the actions taken to address future uncertainties must be prioritised. This tool provides an easy way to bring the current strategies into alignment with any new strategies being developed.
Use this canvas following the Stress Testing workshop with your scenario team. Harvest a succinct list of current strategies that are being pursued by your organisation. Ensure team members are aware of these strategies, why they are important and how they are performing. Gather the "new" strategies that have been evaluated with the Stress Testing canvas.
Allow team members to discuss and debate which strategies should be moved down into the "stop" or "defer" areas.
With the remaining strategies, place them in the prioritisation grid according to their complexity and value delivered.
Gather information about current strategies the organisation is pursuing. Place these in the Existing Strategies area.
Gather the strategies identified in the Stress Testing canvas and place into the New Strategies area.
Assemble your scenario team in a suitable workspace. Review the Stress Testing canvas with the team and give time for the team to discuss them or seek any clarifications. Ensure that participants understand each of the current strategies.
Facilitate a discussion or debate for each strategy and whether it should remain in the Continue area or Start area.
Ask participants to then prioritise the remaining Continue/Start strategies into the Prioritisation grid. Evaluate strategies for their complexity and value.
